About

Hi there! I am Handy Wicaksono, a Ph.D. student at School of Computer Science and Engineering, UNSW Australia. My research is an intersection between artificial intelligence (especially machine learning) and robotics.

Here at CSE – UNSW, I’ve got good opportunities to work (and play) with these robots:

  • Turtlebot (an educational robot kit)
  • Denso VP-6242 (an industrial arm robot)
  • Emu Mini 2 (a Raspberry-pi based 3D printed robot for rescue)
  • Baxter (a service robot).

To enable the robots to sense, think and act, I use these programming languages and software components:

  • Procedural programming: C++, Python
  • Logic programming: SWI Prolog
  • Constraint programming: ECLiPSe
  • ROS (Robots Operating System) and its packages/libraries:
    • OpenCV library
    • PCL (Point Cloud Library)
    • KDL (Kinematics and Dynamics Library)
    • MoveIt (Motion Planning Library)
  • Gazebo (a robot simulation environment)

During my Ph.D., I have been in these roles:

  Tutor, demonstrator, teacher

  • Tutor for “Machine Learning and Data Mining” (COMP 9417) at School of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), UNSW (2016 – 2017)
  • Demonstrator for “Computing for Mechatronic Engineers” (MTRN2500) at School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, UNSW (2016 – 2017)
  • PROLOG consultant for “Artificial Intelligence” (COMP 9414) at School of CSE, UNSW (2017)
  • Mentor and demonstrator for “Introduction to Engineering Design and Innovation” (ENGG 1000) at School of CSE, UNSW (2014 – 2017)
  • Robotics teacher for elementary school students at EdX Academy (2015)

  Event participant

  • Participant of Doctoral Consortium – International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Melbourne, Australia (2017)
  • Participant of RoboCup to demonstrate Emu Mini 2, a 3D printed mini rescue robot, in Hefei, China (2015)
  • Participant of IEEE-RAS Response Robotics Summer School in Perth, Australia (2014)

  Volunteer

  • Student volunteer at International Conference on Machine Learning in Sydney (2017)
  • Volunteer for school of CSE at “UNSW Open Day” (2015 – 2017)

  Other

  • Sub-reviewer for International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (2016)
  • Exams invigilator for school of CSE, UNSW (2017)
